Wedding trends to look out for in 2020/21: Eco-weddings

Our favourite wedding trend for 2020, has to be the rise of the eco-friendly wedding.

It won’t come as a surprise that many brides this year will be looking into an eco-friendly wedding. Not only are more people becoming environmentally-conscious every year, it helped hugely that the Royal wedding of Princess Beatrice made a mindful effort to be sustainable.

A good place to start things moving forward is your wedding stationery.  Save the date cards, invitations and place cards for the big day can all be printed using recycled and sustainably-forested paper.

Want something with a little bit extra?  Choose a paper which has seeds sown into it. When planted, not only will it let the seeds of love bloom into something even more beautiful, months after your big day, but you’re sharing your love with the bees and the butterflies too.

Talking of flowers, you should be aware of the huge trend towards using foam-free floral arrangements in the world of florists. If you want to know why this is less of a trend and more an essential measure to take for the benefit of our environment, make yourself a cup of tea and read this article in The Times which makes it crystal clear why foam-free is the future for floristry and for wedding flowers.

One of the best places for inspiration for foam-free flowers is @nofloralfoam over on Instagram.  Get some ideas then talk to your florist.  They’re bound to have some clever thoughts on how you can have floral displays that are both kind to the environment and beautiful on the eye.  They may well work with local flower growers.  If they do, follow the trend set by Harry and Meghan by embracing the beauty of the irregular, natural and scented flowers over the perfectly-formed, imported blooms.  The carbon footprint you make will be so much smaller and the support to small, locally-based businesses matter hugely.

Perhaps it was the incredible summers of recent times that is inspiring future couples to opt for the great outdoors as a location for the wedding in 2020 and 2021, but – whatever the weather – one thing is certain Norfolk has some stunning locations!  Make the most of the environment around you!

Fitting in perfectly with the backdrops of our English countryside, is the trend for the quirky boho-style outdoor wedding.

Think stretch or sailcloth marquees in a private glade, decked with bunting, bride in pre-loved wedding gown, rugs on lawns, live music, outdoor games, wild rice confetti, grazing tables laden with locally-sourced or foraged food, fire pits, glamping guests… you get the picture.

Or perhaps Downton Abbey style.  A traditional marquee set out in front of a glorious English stately home on impeccably manicured lawns. Morning suits, ivory satin and a vintage Rolls Royce. Fascinators, champagne saucers, a string quartet, silver flatware and fine quintessentially British fayre.

Whatever the style of your wedding and the location, here at Morton Events, our friendly team is mindful to guide you through the options and help create your perfect venue.
