Guest Blog: Venue Decoration with Sam Race

Paper lanterns have always been a popular choice for brides-to-be when it comes to wedding decor. Not only is it an easy way to play with height and dimensions, it’s a great way to bring colour in to your venue.

Marquees and paper lanterns seem to go hand in hand. The rustic simplicity of the lanterns lends itself perfectly to the aesthetic marquee weddings strive to achieve.
Here at Morton’s Event Hire, we’ve seen countless weddings all achieve completely unique looks thanks to variations in colour and concept. We spoke to one of our favourite suppliers, Sam at Sam Race Decorations to get the scoop on how to achieve the perfect look with these timeless decor additions.
“We’ve created over 150 canopies around the East Coast,” Sam tells us of her experience at creating many happy couples dream decor. She recently worked with us at Morton’s, providing Hattie & Justin with their fairytale wedding.
“One of our recent favourites was the beautiful, wow-factor creation we designed for Justin and Hattie, situated in the Walled Garden at the mighty Holkham Hall!”
The couple opted for a gorgeous stretch tent from Morton’s Event Hire, perfect for the relaxed garden setting. As noted by Sam, “The tent was impressive! The team whipped her up and she was a beauty!”
However, that’s not say it was all plain sailing – “Then came the installation questions! The tent has smooth walls, with nothing to clip to.”
Luckily for Hattie & Justin, we wanted to ensure they got the wedding they had dreamed of. Sam approached Rob Morton, Managing Director and all round logistics expert, and “chatted in quite a bit of depth as to how we create the clients look. Our joint product knowledge led to custom made hoops for the poles and tight lines in the rafters!”
Thankfully, our combined ideas worked a treat and we were able to install the decorations without a hitch. “The addition of our lace, ivory and dove grey paper lanterns and a lot of teamwork between our joint business led to one fantastic look – and an incredibly happy bride and groom!”

A massive thank you for providing an amazing and unique tent for our wedding. We were both so glad we went with the stretch tent for something a bit different and we couldn’t have been more pleased! All of our guests said how fabulous it looked! A big thank you also to everyone at Morton’s for helping and answering all of our questions in the run up to our big day. We were delighted with the marquee supplied by Morton’s Events.

Our guests were bowled over by the interlinking hexagonal “pods” (as we called them) and all commented on how special it made the wedding breakfast seem. We managed to accomodate 170 guests in plentiful space while making it seem intimate and cosy.

Mortons’ staff were incredibly helpful,flexible and obliging and decorated the marquee beautifully,with fairy lights and a fabulous starcloth ceiling over the dance “pod”.

Together with table decorations designed by my daughter,the effect created was magical,or as one guest put it “breathtaking.”

We had Mortons marques for our daughters wedding. With 200 guests we had 5 pods, a 5×5 square for the bar area and another as the entrance.

The seating for the guests wrapped round the dance floor giving a wonderful view to all and creating a great atmosphere. Mortons were so helpful always at the end of the phone and the whole day and all preparations went to plan. We would definitely use them again.
