Now that you’ve got your marquee organised, we’ve roped in Emily from The Tack Room to give you her tips and tricks to make your marquee perfect…
Marquees make brilliant pop-up event locations and offer a great opportunity to style and create, a space unique to you, but they can be a little daunting when you are faced with this massive expanse of space that needs to be filled.
We have some handy tips and advice for decorating your marquee space.
The main thing with a marquee is to keep all decorations at eye level or above. With marquees it isn’t so easy to decorate the walls so most of your decorations will need to be freestanding or stood on tables.
I would certainly advise trying to ‘zone’ your marquee space as this will make it easier to plan and create an easier flow for your guests.
For the food area you will have tables and seating – decorating the tables can create impact and will help personalise your marquee. There are so many options for this. Balloons or flowers are great for creating height and adding colour. The rest of the table can be designed to fit in with your style whether you opt for vintage crockery or clean white classic crockery. Cutlery, napkins and glassware can also create a unique look and don’t have to be plain – think about picking one colour to add an extra pop to your tables. Candles can also add a lovely warm ambiance and create a romantic atmosphere.
Lights are also a great way of adding atmosphere to an otherwise empty space. Consider having a pea light curtain behind the band area to make a lovely backdrop for dancing. Twinkly fairy lights wrapped up the marquee poles or freestanding lit up signs and letters are also great for filling the space and injecting some colour and fun to your event.
Within your marquee space you will also need to consider making space for a bar, a gift table and a cake table and each of these can also be styled with flowers or props.
If you are handy up a ladder the ceiling can be another space to style. With options such as hanging lanterns, bunting or paper pom poms these can be a cost effective way of adding colour and texture into your marquee space.
