With the engagement excitement calmed, every side in your house covered in bridal magazines and to-do lists swamping your desks, you may be beginning to feel the stress of wedding planning. But before you get swamped in colour scheme, table decorations and seating plans, remind yourself that this is supposed to be the happiest day of your life. So enjoy your wedding planning. Take your wedding party and get yourself to one of the many wedding shows that are popping up this Spring. It’s the perfect place to properly see your options, choose what you want and banish any stress with re-emerging bubbles of delight.
Take a list
It’s easy to get distracted at a wedding show. Everything’s beautiful, there’s food to taste, flowers to smell and dresses to lust over, so taking a list can help you get the most out of your day. Write out everything that you have left to buy – venue, dress, decorations, flowers, cake, food – everything – and check things off as you go. That’s not to say that you can’t take a little detour to the cake stand every now and then, but make sure you’re organising yourself and not getting overwhelmed so that the day accelerates your planning rather than leaving you feeling unaccomplished.
Go with your gut
Taking friends and family along with you to a wedding show can make it a really special day. It can also make it a nightmare. More people means more opinions, and while it’s great to know what everyone likes and would want at a wedding, remember that it’s your day. Chances are you’ve slipped on a bridesmaid’s dress that wasn’t quite to your taste, eaten a meal that you wouldn’t usually have pulled from a menu and smiled sweetly while your feet ached. And you did so because that was what the bride wanted. Now it’s your turn, so if you’ve dreamt of having a pavlova cake since you were 8, or have ogled over flower crowns for years, then make it happen. Your wedding is your one perfect day for yourself and your partner.
Don’t make quick decisions
It’s easy to fall in love at first sight at a wedding show, but don’t rush. Wedding shows are great for gathering ideas and a price range to work with, but you’re almost guaranteed to be able to find it cheaper somewhere else. Make sure you take business cards from all the stalls that you fall in love with and then do some research at home. You may be able to find it cheaper online or better still, you may have a crafty friend who would know exactly how to make those table decorations that made your mouth drop and your heart thump. Even more important, remember that there are two people getting married that day. If you’ve gone to the wedding show together then great! But if one of you has been left at home for the day, let the know you appreciate their input by taking everything home and debriefing.
But most of all, remember to have fun. Keep any arguments at bay, treat yourself to the delicious food samples on offer and let everyone swoon over you and tell you how jealous they are. Your wedding day will fly by, so make the most of the preparation!
